4 Fantastic Ways to Welcome Fall to Your Home

Ready to welcome fall to your home?

For so many people, fall is a favorite season – maybe because of the fall leaf color and cooler temperatures. Or maybe it’s because of apples, pumpkins and hayrides.

Whatever the reason, one thing’s for sure, though – fall speaks to our senses in a special way.

Just the mere thought of fall makes me hear the crunch of walking through falling leaves. I think back to high school football games and pulling gooey pumpkin guts out of jack o lanterns with my kids.

Fall is sandwiched in the sweet spot right between the long, lazy days of summer and all of the festive hustle and bustle of Christmas.

To help welcome the season to your home, September’s the perfect time to start packing away all of your summer décor:

  • Take this month to pack up your beach towels and dig out your cozy throw blankets.
  • Put away seashells and display some pumpkins.
  • Trade your summer-inspired candles for spice-scented ones.
  • Start transitioning away from salads to soups.

Welcome fall with your senses

One of my own favorite ways to create a haven is to appeal to the senses. I’ve found that it’s one of the easiest, quickest, yet most effective ways to make a home comfy and cozy.

To welcome fall by making your home feel all warm and cozy, use your senses for some inspiration.

Taste

Feeling hungry? Fall is the absolute perfect time to treat your taste buds to so many amazing flavors.

From apple cinnamon to pumpkin spice, make sure to get fill of your favorite seasonal foods.

And don’t forget to start serving hot drinks that will warm you up! From apple cider to hot tea or cocoa, use hot drinks to feel cozier at home.

With cool nights and warm days, it’s also the perfect time of year for layers – both for your clothing and your home.

Sight

While pumpkins are an obvious addition to the inside and outside of your home in the fall, also use fall colors in your furnishings and decorating.

Add more oranges, yellows, reds and browns – in your throw pillows, throw rugs, welcome mats, and candles.

Smell

This is such a great time of year for smells in your home! You can diffuse a mix of essential oils like orange and clove.

Or, simply make a simmer pot on your stove by boiling one orange peel, five or six whole cloves, and one cinnamon stick in a pot of water.

Candles help make homes look and smell cozier.

And, while this may not always come to mind, you can use scented soaps to add fall fragrance to your home.

By using a scented hand soap in my bathroom and kitchen, I’m able to add fantastic seasonal smells that aren’t too overpowering.
