How to Feel at Peace … Even On Election Day
No matter who you vote for and whether you’ll feel thrilled or devastated about the election results, we all have something to celebrate:
Election season is over!
So much tension is wound into election season. It’s easy to get wrapped up and obsessed about which candidate will win.
Yet on this day after, it’s vital for us to remember this truth: Jesus rules and reigns supreme.
It does not matter serves as president. Or senator or representative or anything else. If you believe in Christ, your allegiance is to Him. As Romans 10:9 and 10 tells us, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.”
Our allegiance is NOT to politicians or political parties. Our allegiance is to Jesus.
Not only did Jesus create all things, but all things (like this country and our government) hold together through Him. This is important, because He is the Prince of Peace.
Because He is Prince of Peace, He is on the throne. He reigns in peace. You can live in His peace. You can rest in it.
No matter what rages in this world or in your life, HE will fill you with His peace. When He does, you won’t be able to explain or understand it.
Philippians 4:6-7 tells us, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Dealing with Anxiety
Let’s examine Philippians 4:6-7 and see how we can apply it to our lives.
First of all, when we’re told “Do not be anxious about anything,” the Living Bible translates this as, “Don’t worry about anything.” And the Classic Edition of the Amplified Bible phrases this as, “Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything.”
How is it possible to not be anxious?
No worry?
Not fret?
Have no anxiety about anything?
Paul reveals his answer with the next phrase: In EVERYTHING (Everything!!!), by prayer and by supplication or petition, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.
In EVERYTHING
In other words, in all of life, tell your requests to God.
How will He know your requests?
- By your prayers.
- By your petitions.
- With thanksgiving.
What happens when you thankfully pray to Him in ALL situations, both good and bad? What happens when you honestly and opening present your requests to your Father?
The un-understandable peace of God—that’s peace that comes from God and it can’t be understood or comprehended—will guard your heart. Not only will it guard your heart, but it also will guard your mind in Christ Jesus.
Getting Specific …
Let’s consider this. In every situation, when you’re tempted to feel anxious or not, tell God. Ask Him any request. Be thankful—you would be thankful you have a chance to trust Him or thankful that He IS trustworthy and Lord of all.
When you do this, He’ll fill you with His peace. You won’t be able to understand it. Your request may not be answered in the way you anticipate or even hope, but He’ll do it. The amazing thing is that in this peaceful process, He’ll guard your heart and your mind.
No matter what rages in this world.
No matter when your politician of choice disappoints you.
No matter when the politician you didn’t vote for disappoints you.
Keep trusting your leader, Jesus. Keep telling Him everything through prayer and watch the way the Prince of Peace will fill you with His peace.
How have you experienced the peace of God guard your heart and your mind?
