Figuring Out the Problem Spots in Your Home
When your home is a mess, it can feel overwhelming, in the “I can’t even look past all this mess” way.
But when you’re ready to dive in and start getting things under control, there is a first step. And it might be a little less difficult than you imagine.
First Things First
The very first step in getting your messy home in order is to take an inventory of your home. This inventory will be visual, but you’ll also want to write down what you discover.
Walk through your front door, see what rooms you have, and write down everything you notice:
- What do you use each room for? (You might be surprised at how many different ways you use each room.)
- What storage areas do you have in each room?
- What’s currently in this space?
- Where are your problems spots? Why are they problematic?
Taking the Next Step
Now that you know what you use each room for, it’s time to start dreaming and jotting down your ideas:
- Ideally, what would you like to use each room for?
- How would you love to use the spaces in each room?
- What changes could you possibly make?
- What are some potential solutions for your current problems?
A Final but Important Piece
If you’re a person of faith, now’s the time for a unique opportunity. Once you’ve identified your reality and imagined some possibilities, take the time to pray in every room:
- Ask the Lord to use each space for His glory.
- Pray for the people who use each room.
- Pray for wisdom and discernment how to best use and care for each room.
Instead of rushing on to any busy work in your home, let this first step soak in for a while.
When you’re ready to move on and clean, keep a prayerful attitude in your home and look for fresh, new ways to use your rooms and solve your problem spots. You might surprise yourself as you brainstorm unusual solutions for current problems you may have in your home on your quest for a tidier home.
